Here we go again with another blind tasting over Zoom. In this one, four couples have each contributed two wines. So I know my own two, of course, but the other six will be blind to me. In the pre-tasting, before our Zoom meeting, I have recorded my guesses in advance for those six wines in sets of two.
As per any blind tasting, most guesses are wrong, and I expect to add evidence to that statement tonight!
Final results!
B1 – Eco di Mare 2013, Bolgheri, Italy – Cabernet/Merlot (I guessed Bordeaux Merlot)
B2 – Sarget du Gruaud-Larose 2011, Bordeaux – Cabernet based (I guessed Tempranillo)
JN1 – Ch Marquis de Terme 2011, Margaux, Bordeaux (I guessed Cote du Rhone!)
JN2 – Carignan/Monastrell from Valencia, Spain 2018 (I guessed Chianti)
DC1 – Ch Viramon, Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux, Merlot based (I guessed Bordeaux Cab!)
DC2 – Ch Labergorce, Margaux, Bordeaux, Cab based (I guessed Bordeaux Merlot!)
Blind tastings are hard! You can describe a wine’s traits very well, but then nailing down exactly what it is – another matter entirely!
My wines were:
Ch. Bel-Air Lagrave 1995, Bordeaux (Moulis-en-Medoc)
Songlines Shiraz 2005, McLaren Vale, Australia
