We enjoyed our last virtual tasting so much we had to do it again – a great excuse to pull out some wines a little more special than normal, particularly the sweets, which are rare without (real) company. And then we combine this with a chat about the wines (and other things) with our wine friends!
Our wine choices were the Loess Blanco 2018, DO Rueda, Spain (Opimian) for the appetizer. This was followed by the Songlines Estates “The Boundary Song” Shiraz/Cabernet 2008 from McLaren Vale, Australia (Opimian Founder’s Choice). We finished with Chateau Clos Haut Peyraguey 1996, AOC Sauternes, France.
Our appetizer was a Spanish ham, feta, leek sauce served over orzo. Our main was the classic steak frites – striploin grilled on the Big Green Egg (yes, it is February, but there is no snow on the ground). It was served with homemade ketchup and BBQ sauce. For dessert we had a sort of strawberry cobbler, as in cobbled together strawberry dish!
Our friends went all out! Appetizers were scallops with roe, and pork with garlic sauce and soy sauce peanuts. The main course was pork schnitzel, egg noodles, roast beet, and bok choy. They also had a cheese course, smoked gorgonzola, and then shortbreads for dessert. The gogonzola sounded so good, we opened up our own package to try!

Delicious meal and wonderful wines. The Boundary Songlines has a few years yet to silky perfection and a long life ahead then. The Sauternes was delicious, unctious, Botrycised, with a lengthy finish.
